Most modern cars of Russian and foreign production have contactless ignition systems. Checking this system is not very difficult and can be carried out using a conventional tester.

Instructions

Step 1

Before performing this test, make sure that there is indeed no spark on the center wire of the coil. After that, disconnect the connector that is connected to the switch. Connect the measuring device to 1 and 2 terminals of the block, then insert the key and turn on the ignition. Take a close look at the voltmeter reading: it should show a value that is equal to the voltage on the battery.

Step 2

If the value does not match what you expected to see, then check the integrity of the wire that goes to the coil from the ignition switch. Replace damaged elements if necessary. Then connect to 2 and 4 connectors on the block. Turn the ignition back on and look at the instrument scale. The voltage shown by the tester must match the voltage of the battery.

Step 3

Otherwise, disconnect the wires from the battery, disconnect the switch connector and measure the resistance between the "plus" of the battery and pin 4 of the switch, as well as between the "minus" and terminal 3. Add the obtained data, as a result of which you should get a resistance value equal to 0, 2 Ohm. Remember that these measurements must be taken with the ignition on.

Step 4

After that, bridge the connectors between themselves that connect to the Hall sensor and the switch. Connect a voltmeter to terminals 3 and 5 of the switch. Here, the readings of the device should be 1-4 volts less than the voltage level on the battery.

Step 5

Inspect the coil to make sure the plug at the top is in place. After that, measure the resistance of the primary winding, which should be in the range from 0.6 to 0.9 ohms. Repeat the same procedure with the secondary circuit. Here the resistance values range from 6 to 9 kΩ.
