Instructions
Step 1
The most difficult thing in this case is to drag the torpedo (this is the name of the front panel of the car), so you need to start working with it. Dismantle the torpedo with the utmost care, as if disassembled incorrectly, you can easily cut the wires hidden under the panel cover. Before proceeding with this step, it will not be superfluous to consult with the specialists of the car service, and even better - entrust them with the dismantling of the torpedo.
Step 2
Degrease the panel with refined gasoline or a special degreaser, which can be obtained at any car market. Let the surface dry, then sand it with coarse sandpaper. Dust that remains can be removed with a regular brush.
Step 3
Mark the places where the seams will be located. The number of seams on the material for the constriction depends on the number of irregularities and bends on the torpedo. When marking, be very careful that the material lies on the surface of the panel without any folds.
Step 4
Make a pattern of non-woven fabric by gluing (to fix in one place) it with rubber glue to the panel. Through the non-woven fabric, all the marking lines that you applied earlier will be clearly visible, which will help you make a non-woven pattern. Then lay the leather on the table, make sure it is free from defects, and start cutting. To do this, the previously made non-woven pattern must be applied to the skin, from which you will cut a piece of the desired shape.
Step 5
Smooth and press the finished pattern to the surface of the torpedo using an iron and special weights that are purchased at the car market. Use a gel pen to draw borders on the material to trim the flaps. Remember to leave an extra 10 mm, because when sewing leather pieces, you will bend it.
Step 6
Use sharp scissors to cut the skin in separate shreds, place the shreds on the torpedo and make sure you have not left or trimmed anything extra.
Step 7
Sew the flaps carefully, referring to the panel markings. The thread must be strong so that the seams do not creep over time, special needles must be taken for stitching the skin. Trim off excess folded leather from the inside of the sewn panel cover, but be careful not to cut through the threads.
Step 8
Coat the inside of the cover with glue, allowing the layer time to soak into the material. Also grease the surface of the panel with glue. Wait until the glue dries a little, after which you can glue the leather to the front panel. Do this carefully, without haste, so that the material lies flat, in accordance with the markings on the torpedo. After that, smooth the surface of the glued leather cover with a rubber roller and leave for a day for the glue to finally harden. Drag the rest of the car in the same way.
