When operating any car after a certain number of kilometers traveled, it is necessary for preventive purposes to check the clutch and adjust the cable drive. Depending on the brand of the car and its modification, the clutch can be mechanical or hydraulic. In many cases, checking and adjusting the clutch cable is accompanied by changing the fluid in the system and bleeding the clutch.

Instructions

Step 1

Add new fluid to the clutch reservoir before proceeding with the cable adjustment. Then loosen the slave cylinder bleed valve. Put a clean, transparent hose on the valve, and lower the other end into a jar filled with liquid (the hose must be in the liquid). Step on the clutch pedal and let the fluid drain. Make sure that no air enters the hydraulic system during this operation.

Step 2

With the pedal depressed, tighten the bleed valve. Ask an assistant to release the pedal, then unscrew the bleed valve. Repeat the process until a clear liquid comes out of the valve, without air bubbles. Now you can tighten the valve completely, remove the hose and can. Add fluid to the hydraulic system to the required level.

Step 3

Now proceed with the direct cable adjustment. This should be done when increasing the free travel of the fork, by means of which the clutch is disengaged. The value of this stroke should be within 1-3 mm. Move the fork to the rear position before checking the amount of free play. Please note that different types of clutch release bearing (fixed and constant rotation) may be used on different vehicles.

Step 4

To adjust the free play, slide the appropriate adjusting nut along the thread on the outside of the cable. If it becomes necessary to remove the cable, loosen the adjusting nut, remove the return spring, and disconnect the cable from the clutch release fork.

Step 5

Now remove the pedal access panel. Disconnect the cable holder from the pedal and pull it out from the engine side. Install the new cable in the reverse order and adjust it by moving the nut along the threads to the desired level.
