The cooling system of the car must reliably protect the engine from overheating. A dirty car radiator significantly affects its performance. It needs to be washed occasionally.

Necessary

Coolant, radiator cleaner, basin or bucket, hoses, clamps, soft bristle brush, soapy water, rubber gloves, goggles, canisters for dirty antifreeze, rags, wrenches, screwdrivers

Instructions

Step 1

Cool down the car engine.

Step 2

Secure the hood of the car. Put on gloves and glasses. Clean the radiator grill with a brush and soapy water. Hose it over with water. It washes away dirt well from hard-to-reach places. Try to rinse with a water jet and the cooler's honeycomb. Do not use harsh chemicals.

Step 3

Check the condition of the radiator cap. To keep the antifreeze inside the cooling system, it must be well worn and free from rust. If necessary, replace the cover, matching a new one according to the pressure in the engine cooling system.

Step 4

Inspect the radiator hoses and their mountings. If you find cracks and leaks, weak clamps, purchase new ones. When flushing the cooler, replace both hoses, even if only one is damaged.

Step 5

Place a bucket or basin under the radiator valve. Do not pour the antifreeze on the ground - the liquid is toxic. Use a container that is not suitable for food.

Step 6

Drain the coolant. Look at the color of the antifreeze. If there is no scale or rust in it, you do not need to rinse the radiator.

Step 7

Flush the radiator. Close the drain valve. Fill the cooler with clean water, preferably distilled water. Start the engine for a few minutes. Drain the rinse water into a basin or bucket. Repeat the process as many times as necessary to keep the outlet water clear.

Step 8

If the radiator is very dirty, add a special flushing agent to the water. Start the engine. Let it run for 15-20 minutes to allow the flush agent to travel through the entire cooling system. Drain the liquid. Flush the radiator at least 5 times to avoid negative effects from chemical exposure.

Step 9

Finish flushing the cooler. Pour the required amount of coolant into it.

Step 10

Start the engine for about 15 minutes without closing the radiator cap so that the pressure does not rise too much. Turn on the interior heater to maximum power. When the coolant passes through the entire cooling system, air pockets will come out of it on their own. Add coolant to the correct level.

Step 11

Close the radiator cap. Carefully! The coolant has already warmed up.

Step 12

Check all the connections you have changed for a tight fit.
