Despite the economic difficulties of the post-Soviet period, Russia continues to develop its aircraft construction. One of the latest introduced models is the Sukhoi Superjet 100.
The aircraft was developed by the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company, the successor to the well-known Soviet design bureau. This organization is engaged in the development of civil aircraft. Its central office is located in Moscow, and it itself is part of a larger aviation holding, which also includes manufacturers of military aircraft.
The decision to start designing a new passenger aircraft, which was necessary to fill the niche of regional aviation with domestic aircraft, was made in 2000. Two years later, foreign specialists were involved in the development of internal parts of the aircraft, in particular engines, to increase the competitiveness of the future aircraft.
To assemble the new aircraft, a production branch was established in the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The Gagarin Aviation Production Association, also located in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, took part in the manufacture of both prototypes and the final modification of the aircraft. It was at the facilities of this enterprise that a significant part of the adjustment work was carried out.
In 2007, the aircraft was ready for test launches. They were carried out at the place of production - in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. Subsequently, the design of the aircraft was recognized as successful. He received all the necessary certificates already in 2008. The following year, the new Russian airliner was exhibited at the famous air show in France. Already in 2011, the first aircraft was purchased by a Russian airline for regular flights.
It should be noted that not all Superjet parts were manufactured in Russia. Some are supplied from the USA by Honeywell. And the production of information systems was entrusted to the French concern Thales Group.
