The pump in VAZ cars must be replaced if there are leaks, as well as bearing play. On VAZ cars with a timing belt drive, a large play in the coolant pump bearing causes belt wear. Its outer part is eaten by a roller. Liquid, getting on the belt, also causes irreparable harm to it.
Necessary
- - capacity 7 liters;
- - a tube of sealant;
- - socket, open-end and box wrench for 17;
- - key for 17;
- - key for 13;
- - new pump with gasket and bolts;
- - chisel and hammer.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare your car for pump replacement. Be sure to drain the engine cooling system. To be sure, remove the negative terminal from the battery. If you do not plan to change the fluid, you need to prepare a container in advance, the volume of which is at least seven liters. The container must be clean so that dirt does not get into the liquid, which subsequently contaminates the cooling system.
Step 2
Allow motor to cool before draining fluid. Do not carry out repairs on a hot engine. Open the stove tap, and then drain the water from the radiator. On cars, starting with the VAZ-2108, you need to unscrew the expansion tank plug in order to regulate the fluid pressure. Then screw the plug into the hole on the radiator and drain the fluid from the engine block. For this, a hole is provided in the block, a bronze bolt with a 13 head is screwed into it.
Step 3
Remove the bolts that secure the plastic cover, which acts as a protective cover for the gas distribution unit. It is imperative to remove the timing belt, because it is he who drives the pump. There is no need to remove it completely, unless it is planned to replace it. It is enough just to loosen the belt tension by unscrewing the nut on the tension roller. Even better, if you remove the video during the repair, it will not interfere.
Step 4
Remove the belt from the camshaft and set it aside. The pump is attached to the block with three bolts with lock washers. You will need open-end wrenches, socket wrenches and ring wrenches for 10, because each bolt needs a special approach. It is convenient to unscrew one bolt with an end bolt, and the other with an open-end. Now the most difficult thing for you is to remove the pump from the seat.
Step 5
Take a fine-tipped chisel and hammer. Apply a series of hard blows to the pump body. The chisel should be installed closer to the junction of the pump and engine block. Now you need to prepare a new pump and engine for installation. Carefully wipe the seat on the block with a metal brush (just not too rough, so as not to leave grooves on the metal). Then treat with a cloth soaked in solvent and wipe dry. Ideally, you should treat the gasket under the pump with a sealant. But if you take into account the fact that the pump is tightly pressed into the engine block, this does not need to be done.
Step 6
Install the gasket on the new pump. Tap the pump casing lightly with a wooden mallet and press it into the seat. Make sure the bolt holes match. If they do not match, then you need to rotate the pump housing, or press it again. Tighten the mounting bolts and proceed to reinstall the timing belt. Check, just in case, the coincidence of all marks on the motor shafts. If you treated the gasket with a sealant, then do not immediately pour liquid into the system. It takes time for the sealant to become operational. And if not processed, then you can fill in the liquid. The car is ready for any trip.
