According to experienced drivers, the connection of an additional brake light is a prerequisite for trouble-free driving in conditions of heavy urban traffic. The financial costs of purchasing and installing a brake light are low, especially when compared with the possible damage from an accident, which can certainly be avoided by informing all road users in time about an emergency braking or maneuver.
It is necessary
- - stop signal;
- - thick electrical tape;
- - screwdrivers.
Instructions
Step 1
Look for a spot on your car for an extra brake light. Choose from a practical rather than aesthetic point of view, as the main focus of the new taillight is road safety. Pay attention to the fact that rear brake lights come in several types and are divided according to the place of attachment to the vehicle. They can be mounted on the rear bumper, fastened to the spoiler or placed on the rear shelf inside the passenger compartment, just behind the glass.
Step 2
Before purchasing a new brake light, consider connecting it safely to the vehicle's electrical system. If this is an old car of domestic production, then there may be problems with the generator and battery, which are not designed to connect powerful additional electrical equipment. Even if the connection of the brake light goes off without complications, the effective operation of the electrical system will be disrupted, which will lead to early failure of the battery. Therefore, it is necessary to select an additional brake light taking into account all the features of the operation of the machine.
Step 3
Next, proceed with the installation of the rear light. This is a simple task, but it requires certain skills and some knowledge about the principles of electrical circuits in a car. When fixing the brake light on the rear parcel shelf of the car, ensure that the positive wire of the device is in contact with the wires under the rear sofa and leading to the standard rear brake lights of the car. There are several options for connecting the negative wire, the most effective of which is to put it on the car body directly through the interior trim.
Step 4
Install an additional brake light on the bumper if the rear shelf of the car is occupied by other equipment (for example, speakers). I must say that this is not the most practical option from many points of view. On the bumper, the lantern is exposed to heavy loads, it looks ugly, because all road dirt and dust immediately settles on it and reduces its efficiency. In addition, this place of installation of the brake light is clearly visible only on tall cars such as minibuses or jeeps. However, if there are no other options, after installing the additional brake light on the bumper, connect the positive wires to the rear standard feet, and the negative wire to one of the metal bumper mountings.
Step 5
Attach an additional brake light to the spoiler if this installation location is optimal for the vehicle. This is the most difficult method, as the wires will have to be placed inside the spoiler if it has a hollow structure. Otherwise, you will have to secure the wiring with wire and staples on the bottom of the spoiler.
