Some vehicles are not equipped with a standard tachometer. This device is very useful for the driver, as it shows the engine speed at a given time. If your car does not have it or you don’t like the standard device, then you can connect an additional one.
Necessary
- - new remote tachometer;
- - screwdrivers;
- - knife;
- - wires;
- - soldering iron;
- - spanners.
Instructions
Step 1
Visit your nearest auto parts store. There you can find a wide range of remote tachometers. Find the one that best suits the interior of your car. It is also worth paying attention to the presence of a red light, which lights up at the moment when the engine speed reaches the limit value.
Step 2
Study carefully the instructions that come with the purchased tachometer. If you have purchased the simplest model, then it can be connected using a plug that is inserted into the cigarette lighter. This tachometer measures the difference in voltage and translates it into engine speed. You can solder the tachometer wires directly to the cigarette lighter wires to achieve the smallest operating error.
Step 3
Remove the cigarette lighter socket from the socket, having previously de-energized the on-board power supply system. To do this, you need to remove the negative terminal from the battery. Make small cuts in the wires and strip off some of the insulation.
Step 4
Solder the red wire to the red wire and the blue wire to the black wire. Instead of black or blue, it can be brown. Carefully insulate all connections and lay them so that they do not come into contact with each other.
Step 5
If you want to achieve the greatest accuracy, then make a complete installation of the tachometer. Choose a place on the torpedo where you can fix the device body. Carefully drill a hole for the wires. The torpedo is best removed.
Step 6
Insert the bundle of wires through the hole made in the torpedo. It is best to use a rubber pad. It can be made from wire insulation with a large cross-section. This gasket will prevent chafing of the wires.
Step 7
Understand the wiring. Solder the red tachometer wire to the ignition plus, the green wire to the ignition coil output, the white wire to the dimensions or instrument lighting, and the black wire to ground. It should be noted that the above pinout of the wires is approximate. It may vary depending on the tachometer model.
Step 8
Install the torpedo in place. Decorate the installed tachometer to your liking. Check if it works.
