The towbar on the Niva is required to perform two functions. It protects the muffler and bumper when driving on steep climbs and bumps. It is also required to connect a trailer.
Instructions
Step 1
Buy a towbar from the store, and also in the kit you will see wires, a socket and bolts to secure the new part to the car body. After the long-awaited purchase, paint the towbar carefully in the color of the car. Then lift the vehicle onto a lift or with a jack. In the absence of this, just climb under the bottom and try on the part, attaching it to the place of future fastening.
Step 2
Mark with chalk where the bolts will go. After that, remove all dirt and excess materials from the surface and use a rolling jack to press the hitch to the bottom of the car. Lightly tighten the bolts and look at the back of the part to be installed. Make sure that the rear brake adjuster link can move freely without encountering any resistance in its path.
Step 3
Tighten the bolts carefully in several passes. Then take the wires that came with the kit and insert them into the heat shrink tubing. Remove the luggage compartment trim on the left side by removing the two pistons and pulling them towards you. Through the hole in which the wires for the room lighting are routed, bring your harness to the towbar.
Step 4
Install the fuse holders and fit the ferrules onto the harness. Use electrical tape to secure the harness to the rear overhang to protect the wiring from high temperatures on the muffler side. Install the plug and connect the wires. Remember that to connect the trailer it is better to "ring" them in advance.
Step 5
Carefully check the tightness of the wires. Then find a small piece of Styrofoam or other similar material. Close them the holes that are at the ends of the crossbeam. This will prevent dirt, water and other unnecessary substances from getting inside the towbar, which will prevent early corrosion.
