The most popular type of front suspension is the "McPherson". It is installed on "eights" and "tens". The suspension is simple and reliable in operation, but our roads "kill" it. Traditionally, its diagnostics starts with checking the thrust bearing.
Instructions
Step 1
Remove the protective plastic caps, press the upper element of the A-pillar rod with your fingers and rock the car by the fender. With a lot of bearing wear, knocking and play will be felt. In addition, its serviceability can be checked in this way: ask someone to sit behind the wheel, put your palm on the coil of the front spring, ask to turn the steering wheel in any direction. If a metallic click is heard with simultaneous recoil in the palm, then the thrust bearing is worn.
Step 2
In addition, you can check for a malfunction in the support bearing by sound. Perform any maneuvers when the car is moving at low speed: turns, braking, stop and move off. If the support bearing fails, a non-metallic noise will be clearly heard in the area of the front wheels. After its appearance, the steering wheel usually begins to go slightly to the right.
Step 3
Drive your car over bumps in the roadway, including a speed bump. If the support bearing fails, a grinding noise will be heard in the area of the shock absorber. It is not permanent - it appears, it disappears. This is most often seen in cold weather. In either case, the journal bearing should be replaced immediately. There are two options for this.
Step 4
The first is to remove the rack assembly completely, i.e. together with brake disc and steering knuckle. Although this is a laborious process, then there will be no need to do wheel alignment. The second is somewhat simpler, in this case, the steering knuckle should be disconnected, the upper part with the spring should be dismantled. But you will have to remove the adjusting bolt, as a result of which it will be necessary to adjust the camber.
