Carrying out regular vehicle maintenance includes a mandatory engine oil change. Together with the oil, the oil filter is replaced, which in some cases can be difficult to unscrew. There are several ways, knowing about which you can cope with the task.
Instructions
Step 1
Difficulties with replacing the filter may arise due to excessive diligence at the time of the previous replacement - the filter "sticks" and does not give in. Another reason is that the limited space in the engine compartment in the area of the filter attachment does not allow the use of tools.
Step 2
Use a special wrench to make it easier to remove the filter. On the shelves of car dealerships, such keys are presented in a wide variety of designs: chain, clamping, tape, screw, etc. Their cost is low, but it will serve you for a long time, saving you from difficulties.
Step 3
If you do not have the opportunity to buy a key, and the filter needs to be removed urgently, you can try to unscrew it with the help of available tools. Take a medium to large screwdriver, punch through the filter (throw it away anyway) and using the handle of the screwdriver as a lever, pull the filter out of place with a brisk motion.
Step 4
In some cases, a large gas wrench can help a car enthusiast. If the space in the engine compartment allows the filter to be gripped with a wrench, it should be easy to unscrew. The long handle of the key allows it to be used as a lever, which greatly facilitates the task.
Step 5
Another handy tool with which you can unscrew the oil filter is a leather belt. Slide it onto the filter housing, tighten counterclockwise and pulling firmly on the belt to unscrew the filter. If the belt slips, place sandpaper between it and the filter.
Step 6
If there is no removable key, and all attempts were unsuccessful, try the most unaesthetic, but effective option. Use a hammer and chisel to score a notch on the filter housing and install the chisel into it. Then hit the chisel with a hammer so as to "rip" the filter out of place.
