In a barn, in a home workshop, or in a garage, you may need something like a winch or hoist. In the store, these devices are not often sold, and besides, they cost decently. Making a winch yourself is not so difficult and much less expensive.
Necessary
- - rolled metal products;
- - cable;
- - channel;
- - pulley;
- - block;
- - nuts;
- - threaded rod.
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, for the manufacture of a winch, it is worth taking care of purchasing such a thing as a threaded hairpin in a store or at a flea market. They are found up to 2m long, and this is exactly what you need to purchase, because the longer the thread is, the higher you can lift the load, in this case, its working stroke will be approximately 180cm. The support or winch frame can be made of oak beams, but it is still preferable to make it from a channel or metal profile. The support can also be welded from rolled metal.
Step 2
So, make a frame in the form of the letter "P", drill holes in the sides for the bearings, into which the ends of the threaded rod will be inserted. Weld the nut on both sides to a rectangular plate with a coaxial hole for the stud, this unit will be the pulling nut. A hole should be drilled in it for the cable, its thickness should be consistent with the purposes for which you are making the winch.
Step 3
Think about where your winch will be located in the ceiling: it will depend on which side the drive will be located on, from which side the car unit being repaired will rise. On the side you specified, weld the corner on which you attach the block under the cable. There will be a pulley on the other side. Fit one of the ends of the stud to its inner diameter with a bore.
Step 4
It should be noted that you can use sprockets instead of pulleys, using a looped chain for manual traction, since the design of this winch is designed to lift sufficiently large weights. But if an electric drive is preferable for you, then for this purpose you can use a cheap electric drill with a power of up to 500W. Then you need to put the pulley on the winch and fix the second pulley on the floor.
Step 5
And a few more words about the assembly of the structure. Do not skimp on the power and amount of fixing the winch to the ceiling. Use long anchor bolts, if there are iron floor beams on the ceiling of your room, point-weld the structure to one of them, additionally screwing them in with bolts. So you will save both the load from falling and yourself from injury.
