What are SUVs for? Probably for overcoming bad roads and off-road. But this is not always the case, because SUVs are divided into different classes, some of which are intended only for asphalt.

Nowadays, you can really sympathize with a person who is going to buy an SUV. Indeed, there is such a variety of different models on the market that it will be very difficult to choose the one that suits you in all respects.

Classification of SUVs

SUVs are divided into several categories, from which one can distinguish:

• real off-road vehicles are frame vehicles that can overcome almost any terrain;

• asphalt SUVs - cars that can cope with frivolous off-road, but they feel more confident on a hard road surface;

• SUVs, they are also crossovers, are cars with increased ground clearance, sometimes even with four-wheel drive, but they are more intended for city use.

But this classification cannot be called entirely accurate, since SUVs can belong to one degree or another to several categories. In addition, off-road vehicles can be subdivided into budget and premium "crooks".

Classifying SUVs can be long and tedious. Automakers confuse themselves, successfully combining incompatible. For example, the BMW X6 is a kind of symbiosis of an SUV and a four-door coupe.

SUVs are needed, first of all, for outdoor activities, outdoor trips and overcoming off-road terrain. Particular attention should be paid to off-road vehicles, on which you can storm almost any terrain without fear. So, the most famous such cars are the domestic UAZ, Land Rover Defender, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and similar models. These cars are devoid of unnecessary amenities, they do not have all the bells and whistles, but their trump card is excellent cross-country ability. There are also premium SUVs that can tackle tough terrain: Lexus LX 470, Land Rover Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz G-class.

Perhaps one of the most famous SUVs is the Hummer H2. However, its production has already been discontinued.

Asphalt SUVs are most often intended for operation within the city and outside of it, for example, into nature. They have a certain off-road arsenal, but you don't need to "lose your head" on them and drive off the asphalt in untested places. Famous representatives of this class include Toyota Highlander, Mitsubishi Pajero, Porsche Cayenne and others.

It is better not to test crossovers at all off-road, especially on heavy ones, since they are intended for urban use. The most prominent representatives of this segment are Renault Duster, Kia Sportage, Volkswagen Tiguan, Toyota Venza and similar models.
