For proper operation of the battery, it must be charged periodically. In the summer, this should be done after half the charge is lost, and in winter - with a quarter. This is explained by the large loads on the battery in the cold season, which are associated with starting and heating.
Instructions
Step 1
To charge the battery, open the hood and make sure the engine is off. After that, disconnect the wires from the battery and remove it from the engine compartment. Bring the frozen battery into a warm room, such as a garage or your own apartment.
Step 2
Wait until all the ice has melted. After that, inspect the battery case for cracks and deformations. If there are defects, refrain from charging and replace the device, because cracks in the case can lead to electrolyte leakage, which is unacceptable.
Step 3
After the battery has warmed up, check the electrolyte level. If necessary, add a sufficient amount of distilled water. Remove the filler caps and then cover the holes. This procedure will prevent electrolyte splash and allow the discharge of gas vapors generated during charging.
Step 4
Connect the battery to the charger, being careful to match the polarity of both devices. After that, turn on the device and monitor the indicators. When charging with constant current, periodically check the temperature of the battery by touch. If it increases above + 55 ° C, stop the process immediately.
Step 5
The indicator of the battery charge is the process of abundant gas separation and the steady-state values of the voltage and density of the electrolyte. After charging, which for a battery with a capacity of 50 Ah is about 5 hours, disconnect the charger and leave the battery for a while to allow gases to escape from the inside. After that, disconnect the wires and reinstall the filler plugs in their places. Check the charge of the battery and install it in its original place in the engine compartment of the car.
