Many car owners want to darken their vehicle from the bright sun. But the traffic police is actively fighting those who tint the glass too much. Light protection films significantly reduce visibility, which is unsafe for traffic. Therefore, it is important to know which glass and how much can be dimmed, as well as what punishment will follow for violating the traffic police requirements.
Dimming standards for car windows
It is forbidden to cover not all windows in the car with a light protection film. The technical regulations of the traffic police do not stipulate how much the rear side windows can be darkened. There are also no transparency standards for the rear window. If the car has rear-view mirrors on both sides, then it is allowed to either hang a curtain at the back, or stick an opaque film.
Regarding the windshield and front side windows, there are strict requirements of the traffic police regulations. Do not stick any light protection films on them. Any glass does not transmit light by 100%; the more it is worn, the less its transparency. On average, the light transmission of automotive glass is 80 to 95%. The minimum value for the front glass is 70%; for lateral - 75%. The film, which transmits 75% of the light, is completely transparent in appearance. But even applying it to the windshield or side windows will lead to an overshoot. Therefore, at the front, you can only stick a darkening strip at the top with a maximum width of 14 cm.
Punishment for excessive toning
To fine the car owner for too opaque glass, the inspector must first check their transparency using a special device. If the light transmission is below the regulations, then a punishment will follow in accordance with the Code of Administrative Offenses. In 2014, the fine for tinting the windshield and front side windows is 500 rubles. But the driver will also be required to eliminate the cause of the violation, that is, remove the tint from the windows. It is best to do this immediately on site in the presence of an inspector. The film itself usually comes off easily if you hook it with a sharp knife. However, the adhesive often remains on the glass, which greatly impairs visibility. To remove the film immediately with the glue, it must first be heated. It is convenient to use an industrial hair dryer for this, although a regular one will do.
In the service, the light-protective film will be removed much more carefully. But in the case when the car owner refuses or cannot remove the tinting immediately, then in addition to the fine, the traffic police officer will remove the registration plates from the car. This is done because insufficient light transmission of glass is a malfunction of the car, when it is prohibited to operate it. It will be possible to pick up the numbers in the traffic police only after the malfunction has been eliminated, that is, the toning has been removed. At the same time, it is important to know that the driver is allowed only 24 hours to drive a car without numbers to eliminate the malfunction.
