Currently, almost all VAZ cars are equipped with plastic bumpers. On impact, they often deform. Depending on the degree of deformation, the bumper must be replaced or restored (repaired). Buying a new one will be more expensive and take longer than repairing.
Necessary
A bright and warm room, a workbench, a 60 W soldering iron, a knife, a sharpener, metal scissors, a screwdriver, a repair kit for gluing a bumper, a polish and a tinting pencil for painting it
Instructions
Step 1
Welding a bumper requires welding equipment and metal tools. The lack of all these fixtures and welding skills means that it is better to entrust this operation to a workshop. When self-welding, it is very important to choose an electrode. The strength of the weld depends on this. In the absence of experience, the electrode is selected experimentally.
Step 2
Bonding the bumper requires a repair kit consisting of fiberglass, epoxy and hardener. In addition, you will need sandpaper, putty, and a mixing container. Apply 3-4 coats of fiberglass to the outside of the bumper. The first layer should overlap the damaged area by 3-5 cm, the second layer should overlap the first one by the same amount, etc. Sand the gluing lines with sandpaper, and after drying, apply a putty. After half an hour, sand the place of filling with sandpaper.
Step 3
You can paint the repaired area yourself using color-enriched polishes with a tinting pencil. First, erase the desired area with a tinting pencil, and then paint with polish. Before painting the bumper, it is very important to thoroughly wash the bumper and degrease the surface to be painted. In the same way (sanding, patching and painting), small scratches can be repaired. If it is impossible to accurately select the shade of polish, paint the entire bumper. Dry the painted bumper at 60 degrees for 3 hours.
Step 4
If the bumper is slightly deformed or cracked, it can be corrected by heating. Heat the desired area with a hairdryer or a torch so that the part does not deform even more due to heat treatment. Then, if possible, give the bumper its original shape and cool. Then sandpaper, degrease and apply putty. After 30 min. The putty can be sanded and painted.
Step 5
If there is a large crack in the plastic bumper, work over the edges at the break. Then use a soldering iron to join the torn edges and solder. Then walk along the formed seam with a sharpened electrode, heated to 250-350 degrees. The place of the adhesion must be strengthened according to the method described in clause 2
