There are proponents and opponents among drivers of whether to depress the clutch before starting. It is mainly a manual transmission. Most are inclined to believe that it is necessary to squeeze in any case. Opponents argue that squeezing the clutch reduces the engine's service life and it should only be done with a cold start.

The clutch is responsible for connecting the transmission to the engine. Thus, almost all drivers of cars with a mechanic squeeze the clutch before starting the car fully automatically. This factor is not affected by the temperature overboard and the degree of warming up of the engine and other factors.

In simple terms, depressing the pedal, the driver disconnects the box from the engine. It is thanks to this that the owners of the cars of the Soviet automobile industry know very well that when the clutch is depressed, the starter turns the crankshaft more easily and starts normally. Moreover, engines equipped with a carburetor have certain problems with starting the engine, especially "cold", and they do not need an additional load.

Features of the design of cars that require squeezing the clutch

On some modern vehicle models equipped with mechanics, especially those made in the EU and the USA, the power plant will not start at all without the clutch depressed. This is inherent in the design of the machine.

This is dictated by increased safety, especially if a beginner is driving. The habit of shifting the gearbox to neutral speed and removing the gearbox from the engaged speed after parking is developed with experience. Here, squeezing the clutch before starting is simply necessary in order to avoid an uncontrolled start of movement at the same time as starting the engine. Thus, squeezing the clutch on a car with mechanics of domestic production, for example, Lada, is a kind of insurance against a possible unpleasant situation.

The peculiarities of the device of such cars - to start a cold engine with the clutch connected is equal to 100%, to plant the battery, while the input shaft of the box also turns, and the starter starts to work with difficulty.

The main reasons why you need to squeeze the clutch before starting the engine:

· Viscous lubricant;

· Connection of the input shaft;

· The car may be at speed;

· Load on the starter;

· Fast battery consumption.

Why you shouldn't squeeze the clutch when starting

Opponents of the squeezed clutch name the main factors in defense of their approach:

· Reduction of the motor resource of the engine;

· Increased load on the main bearing, which is currently running without lubrication;

· Backlash of the crankshaft along the axis;

· Vibration builds up in the engine with transmission to the body.

Squeeze or not

A perfectly serviceable car without wear of components and mechanisms, in principle, can be started without pressing the clutch pedal in comfortable conditions. At subzero temperatures, if it's freezing outside, it is necessary to depress the pedal in any case.

If there are no special prerequisites for pressing the pedal, you do not need to press it. If you need to start the car normally, then it is better to squeeze the clutch.
