A collector is a technical device located in an internal combustion engine (ICE). There are exhaust and intake manifolds that collect the flows of gases or mixtures into a common flow to ensure the smooth operation of the internal combustion engine. Grinding the manifolds is best done when the engine is overhauled.

Necessary

  • - abrasive paste (GOI);
  • - tarpaulin;
  • - sandblasting machine.

Instructions

Step 1

Dismantle the head, remove the valves and the camshaft from it. Then remove the collectors. There are several options for sanding. Try sanding with a coarse emery first, and as you "smoke" go to a finer emery cloth.

Step 2

The second option: fix the emery on a rag, put the collector in a vice and rub with a rag over the desired parts of the part. This method is suitable if the burrs are small.

Step 3

You can grind the manifold with small metal wire brushes (1 to 5 cm in diameter). Insert the brush into the drill chuck. Attach an extension cable with a diameter of 6-10 mm to the shank and grind the manifold.

Step 4

Also, in some cases, the grinding of the collector is performed using a 2-3 mm thick cable. Apply a layer of coarse abrasive paste, for example GOI, to it, and perform translational-rotational movements in one of the channels. Visually check the quality of rough processing, wind a tarp on the rope, lubricate it with GOI paste and repeat the procedure. In this way, you can handle the most critical parts.

Step 5

Use a sandblaster to sand the manifold. Repeat all the steps described above, but use a jet of compressed air with abrasive particles instead of a rope.

Step 6

Grinding is an ambiguous thing, it has many pros and cons. But, unambiguously, cleaning and joining of channels will not harm the motor. After such a procedure, you will have a good feel for the operation of the engine, at idle it will be more stable, especially in an unheated state and in winter. Also, the maximum engine speed will rise slightly and dynamics will be added.
