You may need to sand your car if you paint over scratches or rusting spots on the body. This work is very delicate, and it is best to do it manually - this is the only way you can achieve the perfect result.
Necessary
- - sandpaper of varying grain size
- - Sander
- - putty knife
- - putty mass
Instructions
Step 1
Before you start sanding the car, do not be lazy to go to the car wash or wash the body by hand, removing dirt and dust from it. A clean car makes working more pleasant, and places in need of cleaning will become even more noticeable.
Step 2
Inspect the surface of the vehicle for scratches or rusting spots, use a coarse 80-grit sandpaper and rub over the damaged area.
Step 3
If there is a need to patch up scratches, fill them after the first cleaning with a putty mass, let it dry for 20-30 minutes and once again go over the putty places with sandpaper (grit 60). The next step will be 120-grit paper, which must be done until your fingers stop feeling for any unevenness or roughness in the repaired area of the body.
Step 4
Now you have to grind the entire body (or the part to be repaired) with a sander with 400 grit sandpaper.
Step 5
Finish by wet sanding with 800 grit paper.
