The timing belt is a small part, but it affects the engine performance greatly. Excessive wear and tear of it can end in failure for the cylinder head. When the belt breaks, the pistons and valves meet, which ends in bending of the latter. And the repair costs many times more than the cost of a belt and two rollers.

Step 1
Check the condition of the timing belt on the Hyundai Accent every 20-30 thousand kilometers. So you will protect yourself and your car from the possible consequences of a break. Replacement is done every 75-100 thousand, more than a hundred is not recommended to operate the belt. If the mileage is low, then try to install a new one every three years. The rubber dries up, becomes covered with cracks, which cause premature wear and breakage at the most inopportune moment.
Step 2
Prepare the car for repairs by removing the engine protection. You also need to dismantle the casing covering the timing belt compartment. On a Hyundai Accent car, the power steering, generator and air conditioner are driven from a pulley on the crankshaft. Only here is a separate belt for each device. Therefore, you will have to loosen the tension rollers on the air conditioner and power steering drives, and also unscrew the nut that secures the generator to the bracket.
Step 3
Remove all three belts and install the crossbar in the engine compartment. You need to hang the engine on it to remove the side cushion. Only after removing it can you continue to carry out the replacement. To do this, remove the auxiliary equipment drive pulley (power steering, air conditioner, generator) from the crankshaft. Loosen the timing idler and support roller bolts. As a result, the belt itself will sag, so it can be easily removed.
Step 4
Unscrew the bolts from the rollers and remove them, as they also need to be replaced, even if they have no play. Now it was about adjusting the knot. On a Hyundai Accent car with a 16-valve engine, there is only one camshaft drive pulley. This makes setup much easier. There is a hole in the pulley that must line up with the mark on the engine block. If the setting is inaccurate, correct the position of the shaft.
Step 5
Install the crankshaft according to the marks on the pulley and engine block. They are made in the form of protrusions. Only after all these adjustments can you start installing a new belt. First, the tension and support rollers are screwed into place. The latter can be tightened, and the former is just enough to make money. After that, the belt is installed first on the crankshaft pulley, then on the rollers. The last thing to do is to put it on the camshaft pulley. The tension is adjusted with a roller. Now all that remains is to assemble the entire assembly in reverse order.
