Every car enthusiast may notice that the car paint has become less shiny after some time. The reason for this is the large number of small scratches that make the surface of the paint layer matte. You can return your car to its previous appearance by polishing.
Necessary
- - lint-free wipes
- - polishes of varying degrees of abrasiveness
Instructions
Step 1
For work, you may need the following tools and materials - lint-free wipes (you can also use clean rags, the main thing is that it does not leave lint and pellets on the surface) and polishes of varying degrees of abrasiveness. You can also make your work easier with a polishing machine. It is advisable to polish the car body at a temperature close to room temperature, in the absence of direct sunlight.
Step 2
Before starting polishing, first of all, thoroughly wash the car body with special detergents. If there are indelible traces of bitumen or petroleum products on the body, remove them with special resin solvents such as Buster. Diesel fuel can also be used, but special care must be taken to avoid damaging the paint.
Step 3
Examine the car body. If there are scratches in the coating to the layer of soil or metal, then these places should be treated with an anti-corrosion compound and sealed with a special masking tape.
Step 4
You need to start polishing the car body from the most damaged places, using a polish with medium abrasive properties. You need to work without making excessive efforts, rubbing the polish over the surface in a circular motion.
Step 5
If you work with a polishing machine, then it is advisable to try your hand at first on an inconspicuous area of the painted surface. Select the optimal speed of the machine, force and angle of pressing on the surface during polishing, and after that polish the rest of the body surface. Be careful when polishing edges and corners - when polishing them, you must significantly reduce the pressure and speed of the machine to avoid damage to the enamel.
Step 6
After roughing, wash off any traces of polish and let the body dry. Sand the entire car body with a fine abrasive polish.
Step 7
At the end of polishing, it is also advisable to treat the car body with some kind of wax-containing protective agent.
