Every car owner will sooner or later face the fact that the battery in his car is almost discharged. To continue using the car, the battery must definitely be charged, otherwise you may simply not start.

As a rule, the battery is removed for recharging, this is normal, it is designed for this. But disconnecting the terminals can lead to a reset of all electronic systems, as well as clearing the RAM of the on-board computer. Then everything will have to be reconfigured, and it will take a lot of time.

What if you don't want to remove the terminals at all, as this may entail undesirable consequences? There are 2 ways to solve this problem.

Method 1 - connecting a second battery

This method is used by many auto repairmen if you need to charge the battery and prevent all settings from being reset.

You will need an additional 12 volt power supply. This can be, for example, an old battery, the main thing is that it is enough to maintain the operation of the internal electronic systems of the car.

Using special wires, we connect the spare power supply in parallel. After that, disconnect the main battery. Now the car is powered from an additional source, and the battery can be safely charged and returned in the same way.

The main thing is to do everything carefully and make sure that there is enough additional source to support the operation of electronic systems.

Method 2 - charging without removing the terminals

Whoever says anything, it is possible. There is conflicting information on various sites and forums. Someone writes that they have been doing this for a long time and everything is fine, and someone complains that they burned all the electronics.

With a reasonable approach, you can charge the battery without removing the terminals. Every electrical device in a car is designed for a specific voltage. When you plug in the charger, the voltage in the battery and wires increases. This can damage electronic systems.

Moreover, each device has a small voltage margin, that is, it can survive a certain overvoltage and not fail. For different devices, these values differ, but if you try to average, then up to 15, 5 volts is an acceptable voltage for most devices.

Ideally, you need to find documentation for the entire electronic filling of your car and study what maximum voltage this or that device can withstand.

After you know these data, connect the charger by setting the appropriate values. It may be that for your configuration, charging without removing the terminals will not be possible.

Be careful

Use only licensed chargers from reputable manufacturers for charging. Otherwise, the information on operating voltages may be inaccurate, resulting in the destruction of electrical appliances.

Agree, it will be a shame to burn all the electronics in an expensive BMW or Mercedes because of such a trifle.
