Car battery terminals are made of durable materials - lead, brass. However, even the toughest metal is capable of “fatigue”. At this moment, battery mounts breakdowns occur.
It is necessary
New battery terminal, two 10 and 12 mm wrenches, knife, sandpaper
Instructions
Step 1
Purchase a terminal for the battery in accordance with the one that broke you - either positive or negative. They differ in diameter. Also, the terminals can have different clamping systems - screw or rotary. Which one you choose doesn't matter.
Step 2
Turn off the ignition if the vehicle was running before starting repairs. Remove the key from the ignition. Take the car off speed and put it on the handbrake.
Step 3
Open the hood. Disconnect the terminals from the battery. Always disconnect the negative terminal first and then the positive terminal. This is necessary in order to secure all electronic systems of the machine. When the "mass" has lost its potential, no short circuit will be dangerous for them.
Step 4
To remove the terminals, use a 12 mm wrench to unscrew the side bolt that secures the part to the battery. If you don’t have the correct size wrench on hand, use an adjustable wrench or pliers.
Step 5
Cut off the broken terminal where it connects to the cable. Carefully cut the braid with a knife. Strip the insulation from the contacts with sandpaper.
Step 6
Unscrew the two clamping bolts on the new terminal. They are smaller and require a 10 mm wrench. Slide the wire through them so far that the stripped ends protrude slightly from under the holder. Tighten the bolts with a 10 wrench so that the connection is neat and strong.
Step 7
Reconnect the terminals to the storage battery in reverse order. First put the terminal on "plus" and only then on "minus". Tighten the side terminal bolts with a 12 wrench.
Step 8
Try to start the car. If the engine starts, the job is complete.
Step 9
