The driver's seat should be comfortable first of all. Of course, you can drive a car without an armrest, but your hand gets tired quickly. Unfortunately, not every car comes with an armrest. It, of course, can be bought in the salon or at the car market, since the choice is quite large. But you can do it yourself to your own taste, and even arrange a box inside for various little things.

It is necessary

  • - plywood 8mm;
  • - leather or leatherette;
  • - furniture hinge;
  • - foam rubber;
  • - universal glue;
  • - carpentry and drawing tools;
  • - graph paper;
  • - pencil.

Instructions

Step 1

The armrest is a small cabinet with an elongated lid. Measure the distance between the front seats of your vehicle. Estimate the approximate length, width and height of the future armrest. The parameters should be such that the elbow lies freely. At the same time, the armrest should not interfere with the fastening of the seat belt.

Step 2

Make a rough sketch and drawing. The side walls are rectangles, the long side of which is equal to the height of the armrest, and the short side is equal to its length. The height of the ends will be slightly less than the total height of the armrest. Make the roof slightly longer than the width of the side walls. Its edge will curl downward.

Step 3

Cut the pieces out of the plywood. Assemble them with glue or screws. The "extra" edges of the side walls are the "legs" of your armrest-cabinet. Soak the lid in hot water and fold the edge. You can leave it straight, but it doesn't turn out so pretty.

Step 4

Cut a rectangle out of the foam that is equal to the surface of the lid. Cut out the same rectangle from leatherette. On each side, add a strip to the thickness of the foam, plywood, and hem.

Step 5

Glue the foam to the surface of the armrest. Cover the lid with leather or leatherette. Attach it to the drawer with a furniture hinge.

Step 6

The inside of the armrest should be safe, that is, smooth enough not to plant a splinter. The outer surfaces of wooden parts can also be covered with leather or varnished, but this is not necessary.

Step 7

Place the armrest between the front seats. It should fit snugly into this gap. Otherwise, you need to slightly widen the bottom with two neat pieces of plywood. If you often have to move chairs back and forth, you can attach your creation to the tunnel. But in the usual position this is not required, as well as in the case when the chairs are simply lowered or raised.
