An important advantage of a scooter is its economy. A standard 50cc engine does not burn as much fuel as compared to larger engines. The scooter is simple and reliable in its operation. But, despite all its advantages, it, like other equipment, is prone to breakdowns.
The main causes of scooter breakdown
There are many reasons a scooter won't start. Among them, there are: discharge of the battery, malfunction of the combustible distribution mechanism, deposition of soot on the spark plug, deformation of the engine belt, severe wear of the piston component of the engine.
Detailed consideration of each cause
The first reason is the most harmless and the easiest to identify. Turning the ignition key, simply turn on the light or beep. When the battery is discharged, neither can be done. There are two ways to fix this problem:
1) Try to start the scooter with the kick starter foot located on the left side of the engine. In this case, the moped will start from the remaining charge on the generator winding and after a while the electricity generated by the generator armature and brushes will recharge the battery.
2) Connect the battery to the charger for a few hours.
The charger should be set to the same ampere as the battery, otherwise it will burn out.
A malfunction in the combustible distribution mechanism cannot always be eliminated independently. If the scooter is equipped with an injector, then return the equipment to the service, where specialists, using special equipment, will reflash the injector chip. With the carburetor, the situation is much simpler. Most likely, the scooter will not start due to a blockage in the nozzle, which can be blown out with the most ordinary car pump by inserting the injection valve into the nozzle valve, or you can do without it. Remove the carburetor from the engine, disassemble and rinse thoroughly in gasoline solution.
Soot can settle on the candle due to misalignment of proportions when mixing gasoline and special oil. But this is in the event that a two-stroke engine is installed on the scooter, if the engine is four-stroke, then the problem is in the gasoline itself. Fill with fuel with an octane rating above eighty. To solve the problem with a candle, it will help to burn it. Unscrew the candle from the cylinder and bring it to the fire so that the flame burns the base of the candle. Then, clean with fine-grained sandpaper and screw back.
The engine belt can be deformed due to high revolutions. It is located on the same side as the kick-starter foot under the motor cover. The belt is a consumable that cannot be repaired; you will have to buy it at an auto parts store.
When buying, pay attention to the thickness of the cover and the diameter of the belt.
The piston component includes: cylinder, piston, piston pin, piston rings. The wear of at least one part leads to a loss of power, and later, simply to breakdown. As for the cylinder, it is not necessary to buy a new one, you can squander the old one for repairs above zero. The piston, rings and pin are best purchased in a set for even wear during engine operation.
