Step 1

To begin with, every car has two or more valves per cylinder. One valve starts the hot mixture (intake), while the other releases exhaust gases (exhaust). Remember that on a cold engine, there are gaps between certain parts, and when it heats up, they expand. Therefore, the knock of the valve is caused by the expansion of these gaps, and if it is not eliminated in time, then this may threaten the overhaul of the engine or its complete replacement.

Step 2

To check the valves, disassemble a part of the engine in its cold state and preferably at a temperature of 20 ° C. Then take a flat dipstick of a certain thickness and feel the thermal gap between them. Adjust its width using the special head of the adjusting bolt and turning the adjusting screw in the desired direction.

Step 3

Set the cylinder piston to top dead center on the compression stroke. In this state, both valves of the cylinder are closed, and the rocker arms of these valves should swing freely within the clearance.

Step 4

Lower the locknut into the gap using an adjusting bolt or a feeler gauge and adjust to a horizontal position without changing the gap width itself, and then tighten the locknut. Do not forget about the intricacies and caution, namely, after tightening the locknut, the gap may change, so follow all steps very carefully. Then you should check the tightening itself. To do this, take the dipstick and lower it into the gap, if it passes with little effort, then the gap is optimal, but if it passes easily or hard, then you need to adjust the gap more precisely.

Step 5

After adjusting the clearances in the valve mechanism, it is necessary to start the engine and listen to its operation in various modes.
