New customs duties, which are periodically introduced by the government, and the need for an appropriate certificate for a used car, significantly increase the price when a car bought abroad is imported into the Russian Federation. Therefore, it is important to buy and drive a car from abroad with minimal physical and material costs.
Instructions
Step 1
The main motives for buying a car abroad are as follows: the desire to save money, the desire to buy a car that is not officially sold in Russia, the desire to have an exclusive or antique car, and the desire to buy a used car that was operated in conditions of good roads and services. In addition, more and more problematic used cars, cleverly camouflaged by sellers, appear on the Russian market. It is not profitable to buy new cars abroad. Due to the price competition of manufacturers and dealers, the cost of buying a new car in Russia will be lower than the cost of buying and transporting such a car from abroad.
Step 2
Choose a purchase option that suits you: either buy and deliver on your own, or contact a third-party specialist. In the case of the first option, it becomes possible to choose and inspect the car yourself. The second option allows you not to go into all the intricacies of haulage and customs clearance. An outside specialist can be an individual or a specialized company. The cost of the company's services will be slightly higher, but it provides customers with certain guarantees of the quality of the services provided.
Step 3
Regardless of the choice of a third-party specialist, be sure to conclude an agreement with him. In this document, write down the terms of purchase, model, cost, age and equipment of the desired car, as well as the service fee. Private ferrymen and specialized firms always take an advance to buy a car at auction and customs clearance. Please note that often the low price of the desired vehicle is “offset” by the high customs duty rate.
Step 4
Most often, Russians buy used cars in Germany or Japan. Less commonly in the United States. For a trip to Germany, take care of your passport, Schengen visa and plane ticket. When traveling by bus, the savings in money will be negligible and the time required will be more significant. It is advisable to decide in advance on the place of purchase of the car, and even better to arrange a meeting with the sellers. Or go straight to a major dealer to buy.
Step 5
Begin the assessment of the selected vehicle with a service book. Service stamps must not match those of the dealer (car dealership). Check out the compression measurements and body condition assessments. Next, turn on the engine and pay attention to the absence of extraneous noise. The number of owners recorded in the data sheet should be as small as possible, and in no way more than five. If the inspection period for the car ends, difficulties may arise during the ferry and additional costs for insurance. And be sure to conclude a written sales contract in duplicate with the seller.
Step 6
When calculating the cost of customs payment, the age category of the car is taken into account: up to three years, from three to five inclusive, and over five years. For each category, the customs payment is calculated according to its own rules. The rates of customs duties for cars over 7 years old are the highest. Very often the amount of customs duty exceeds the cost of the car itself.
