Pasting (hauling) a car's interior is a painstaking and complex task that has many nuances. When taking on it for the first time, you need to be prepared for the fact that you will have to put a lot of effort and spend a lot of time. However, those who are afraid of difficulties have no right to count on success in any business.

It is necessary

  • - material for pasting (auto leather, alcantara, fabric, felt or imitation leather);
  • - glue;
  • - hairdryer;
  • - tool (scissors, brushes, knife, etc.);
  • - sandpaper.

Instructions

Step 1

Find the right material for the interior wrapping. It can be auto leather, upholstery fabric, imitation leather, felt or alcantara. The latter material is an artificial non-woven ultra-microfiber made of polyester fiber coated with polyurethane. In terms of its strength characteristics, it surpasses even natural leather.

Step 2

The best adhesives are the English sprays Fentac and Tuskbond, as well as the German Kleiberit glue. The latter is especially good for pasting parts that can be very hot from sunlight during operation (dashboard, for example). 88 glue and Moment can also be used.

Step 3

In general, the gluing technology consists of the following operations: cutting out a piece of material of the required size and shape, glueing (twice for the material and once for the area to be glued), overlaying and pressing (covering) the material.

Step 4

Before sticking the leather on a convex surface, soak it in warm, but not hot water for about 2-3 hours. Stretch wet leather over the part to be pasted and dry with a hairdryer in this position. As a result, the material will take the shape of the part to be pasted. Then coat it twice with glue with drying layers, apply glue to the part - also with drying - and stretch the skin over the area to be pasted, while heating it with a hairdryer. After the final drying of the glue, the skin will tightly fit the surface.

Step 5

When pasting parts with too large irregularities in the shape, sew a cover from the material according to the shape of the part before gluing. The seams must be located exactly at the corners of the surface. The quality of the glued surface depends on the accuracy of the manufacture of the cover.

Step 6

Other materials are not subject to soaking. They are simply coated with glue, dried and stretched onto the surface to be pasted. Drying with a hair dryer during application makes the adhesive softer and more elastic and provides better adhesion. When smearing with Alcantara glue, avoid its excess, otherwise it will come through on the other side and make the front surface hard, deteriorating its appearance.

Step 7

In places with joints, press the edges of the material into them using a spatula or narrow screwdriver. In especially difficult places of bend, the edge is given the shape of triangular petals, which, when laid, close with each other, without forming folds at the bend.

Step 8

When pasting plastic surfaces, sandpaper can be used to increase adhesion. In those places that are difficult to paste with high quality, apply decorative elements of Alcantara. They will help mask flaws.
