Many car enthusiasts use polishing pastes, but not everyone knows how to do it right. Neglecting the polishing process does more harm than good.
There are two types of polishing pastes, which differ not only in composition, but also in the way they are used. In most cases, new car owners use this type of automotive chemistry incorrectly, which is why the body paintwork is subject to rapid wear and aging.
What is body polish paste
For polishing paint on a car, thick pastes of a light shade are used: from ash gray to honey. Several dozen components can be included in their composition: dispersed abrasive powders, silicone and resins containing it, several types of synthetic or natural wax. Also, special additives are added to the pastes, which can create a protective layer, fill microcracks and scratches, enhance the color of the paint coating or repel dust.
Restorative polishing
The principle of operation of the restoring polishing paste is to remove the very thin outer layer of varnish that covers the car paint. This layer bears a lot of damage: scratches, cracks and abrasions. Because of this, the coating loses its shine and looks old.
Restorative polishing is rarely carried out using a special type of paste. Car polishing is carried out on separate areas of the surface, up to 0.5 square meters, using a small amount of abrasive paste: in no case should it dry out. The agent is applied to the surface of the paint in a thin layer and triturated until a continuous film is formed. Next, you should put on a polishing wheel for rough processing on the grinder and thoroughly grind the paste until all traces of it disappear. In the process of restoration polishing, the body can be sequentially processed with several abrasive pastes of varying degrees of hardness.
Protective polishing paste
Protective polishing paste firmly eats into microscopic roughness and fills them, while forming the thinnest layer on the body surface that repels dust and protects against ultraviolet radiation and minor scratches. Protective polishing is carried out in the same way as restoring, but in this case, you should use a polishing wheel for fine processing, with which the machine is rubbed for some time after the disappearance of traces of the paste. Before polishing, the paste should be rubbed vigorously into the surface, ensuring its even distribution. Wait a few minutes before polishing until a white coating appears on the surface of the polishing compound. Protective polishing can be done once every 3-4 weeks: this will preserve the restoration effect and make the process of washing the car easier.
