Bumpers painted in body color have been installed on modern cars for several years. And if before replacing the bumper did not require painting, now it is an obligatory part of car repair, which must be done as efficiently as painting any other part of the car.
Instructions
Step 1
It is best to paint the bumper while it is not yet installed on the car - this will make it easier to paint over all the details of its lower part. A number of important preparatory work should be done before painting.
Step 2
First of all, you need to treat the surface with fine sandpaper, which will remove the gloss from the plastic. Use only special sanding paper that is sold in car paint shops.
Step 3
After the surface becomes dull, it must be thoroughly wiped and degreased with a solvent, and then covered with 1 - 2 coats of plastic primer. You cannot use a primer for metal surfaces - it does not adhere well to plastic and will certainly peel off along with the paint.
Step 4
As soon as the primer is dry, you need to carefully inspect the surface of the bumper for dents and other damage and, if defects are found, putty them. The putty should be wiped off, having achieved a perfectly flat surface, and then a layer of primer should be applied on top.
Step 5
Now you need to treat the primer with fine sandpaper to remove possible smudges and make the surface matte. At this point, be careful not to overdo it and rub the primer to the ground.
Step 6
Once you've finished sanding, dry the bumper thoroughly and start painting. Using a high pressure compressor and a professional paint gun, apply 2-3 coats of paint alternately. After that, apply 1 - 2 coats of varnish, if painted in "metallic". After complete drying, you can install the bumper on the car.
