Replacing the struts on the Hyundai Accent is made, as on any other car, in two cases. Either with the loss of the shock-absorbing properties of the struts, or with the complete flow of fluid from them.
Necessary
- - observation pit, overpass, or lift;
- - keys set;
- - spring puller;
- - safety supports;
- - wheel chocks;
- - steering rod puller;
- - a set of struts with support bearings, anthers, bumpers, bolts and nuts;
- - penetrating lubricant.
Instructions
Step 1
Purchase a set of struts with bumpers, support bearings, nuts and bolts. A can of penetrating lubricant will not be superfluous. Pre-coat the threads of the nuts and bolts with this lubricant so that it is easier to unscrew them later. It is best to start at the front as there is more work to be done. Rip off the front wheel bolts. Now place the vehicle on the fall arrest stands so that the front is fully raised and the wheels are off the ground. Now remove the wheels.
Step 2
Open the hood and rip off the nuts on the shock absorber rods. After that, unscrew the nuts securing the support bearings to the body. After that, it is necessary to disconnect the ABS wires from the racks. Now remove the steering rod from the steering knuckle of the strut, and if it interferes with the brake hose, set it aside. That's it, you can unscrew the bolts that attach the rack to the hub. The top bolt has eccentric washers. With their help, wheel camber is regulated. So after the repair, it is imperative to do the wheel alignment.
Step 3
Remove the hub from the rack by pulling it to the side. The stand goes down without much difficulty. Now squeeze the spring to disassemble the shock. With a puller, squeeze the spring, after that you can only completely unscrew the nut from the top of the stem. Take a new shock strut and place the spring with all the washers and cup on it. Don't forget the bump stop. Install the assembled shock absorber in the reverse order. The second stance is changed in the same way.
Step 4
Lower the front of the vehicle after repairing the front struts. Now you need a pit, a lift, or an overpass, because changing the rear shock absorbers is most convenient when you have access to the car from below. Free up the entire trunk space in advance, there should be no foreign objects in it. Suspend the rear of the vehicle and remove both rear wheels.
Step 5
Disconnect the wires going to the ABS system, and remove the brake hoses from the special brackets on the rack. Now remove the stabilizer link nut from the rack. Now you can start removing and replacing, the preparation is over. Now is the time for the nuts located on the stem. Use two keys to unscrew them. If the stem rotates along with the nut, then it must be held. After freeing the top of the rack, go to the bottom. Unscrew the bolts securing the shock absorber to the suspension. Remove the shock absorber by pulling it down.
Step 6
Compress the spring with a puller so that it does not suddenly open. It is best to clamp the bottom of the strut in a vise, so it will be more convenient. After loosening the fastening of the spring, remove it together with the cup and washer. Note that all rubber and rubber-metal products must be replaced. This applies to anthers and bumpers. Install the spring on the new post, reassemble and install in reverse order. The second rack is replaced in the same way.
