Thermal paste improves heat transfer to the cooler and is an important element of the cooling system. During the operation of the computer, the thermal paste dries up, thereby impairing the heat transfer between the cooler and the processor. Therefore, it must be periodically changed to a new one, in order to avoid overheating, especially in the summer season.
Necessary
- - Thermal paste,
- - credit card,
- - a piece of cloth or cotton wool with alcohol.
Instructions
Step 1
First, you need to completely turn off the power of the computer and remove the side case cover. You also need to disconnect the mouse, keyboard, monitor and all other devices connected to the computer from the system unit.
Step 2
Next, you need to disconnect the processor cooler from the power on the motherboard. There are many clips on every cooler that need to be loosened or disconnected. Coolers are sometimes attached to the radiator with screws. Retainers are usually a kind of latches. Next, the radiator is removed, under which the processor itself is located.
Step 3
Use a piece of cloth to wipe off the old layer of thermal paste. If some of the paste is dry, you can remove it with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab. Next, a new layer is gently squeezed out of the tube onto the processor surface. It should not be too thick, so that the thermal paste does not go beyond the edges of the grille under pressure from the radiator, and at the same time, the layer should not be too thin to ensure normal heat transfer. You can use a plastic card to evenly spread and level the layer.
Step 4
Then the radiator and cooler are installed, all the removed fasteners are put back and fixed. Installation should be done carefully. If the thermal grease "crawls out" beyond the edges of the radiator grill, remove the excess and repeat the installation. Then you can connect the computer to the power supply and forget about changing the paste for another year.
