Step 1
First you need to understand what exactly you want to do with the seat of your car, because some procedures do not require a complete disassembly of the seat. For example, if you decide to modernize your interior and supplement the interior with monitors in the headrests, then you don't have to disassemble the entire seat, but only the headrest. But that's only if you have removable headrests. In some older cars, the head restraints are inseparable from the seat itself. In this case, you will have to disassemble the entire seat.

It is best to disassemble the seat after taking it out of your car. To do this, remove the seat. Usually the seat is mounted on runners, along which it moves freely, allowing the person to adjust the distance as they see fit. The mount usually consists of four runners, two of which are attached to the floor of the vehicle and the other two to the seat. Most often, four bolts need to be removed to remove the seat. Perform all procedures with a flashlight, even if you do it during the day. This will greatly simplify your work.

After you have removed the seat from the passenger compartment, carefully examine the condition of the runners and mountings. If the car is old, then the fasteners can rust. The area under the seat often contains a lot of debris, so you should remove the debris using a car vacuum cleaner and examine the underside of the car for rust or corrosion. Treat problem areas if necessary.

Examine the seat you removed carefully. Evaluate whether it is worth renovating. If it has become completely unusable from time to time, then it will be more expedient to buy a new one. But very often you just need to replace your seat upholstery. Find your vehicle's manual. In it you can find a diagram of the seating arrangement. It will be useful to you in order to understand how best to disassemble the seat. Remove the trim first. On very many cars, it is attached with iron rings, which must be carefully unbend with pliers. After removing the upholstery, you will see the padding - the material that gives the seats a soft feel. It should also be replaced if necessary. After removing the pad, you will see the skeleton of your seat. For a complete analysis, it remains only to disconnect the back. Also investigate the state of the mechanism that is responsible for adjusting the angle of the seat back.
