The sunroof in the car provides a certain amount of comfort in hot weather. For hunters, a large hatch is an additional convenience while hunting. But if the hatch began to leak, and water drips onto the driver and passengers during the rain, you will have to change the leaking seal - the cuff.

It is necessary

  • New cuff.
  • Roller.
  • Contact adhesive.

Instructions

Step 1

Before starting work, clean the damaged parts on which the seal will be glued. Remove the old cuff, clean the gluing site from the remnants of old glue and other dirt, degrease the desired areas. When doing this, use only a lint-free cotton cloth. After applying the solvent, let it dry for 5 minutes.

Step 2

Remove the old damaged seal slowly, pulling it at an angle of 0 to 20 degrees to the surface. If a hot air gun is used during removal, take care not to damage the paintwork.

Step 3

If the new seal has its own adhesive layer, remove the protective tape from the adhesive layer carefully, without haste, holding it at an angle of 20 degrees. When doing this, only hold the protective film by the tab and make frequent stops. After removing the protective film, do not touch the adhesive layer.

Step 4

If there is no adhesive on the cuff, apply a thin layer of contact adhesive using a fine nozzle. At the same time, avoid getting the adhesive on the skin and on the paintwork of the car in visible places. Then apply the sealant and press it down for at least a minute. The glued sleeve must be completely pressed against the surface to be glued. Do not apply excessive pressure.

Step 5

When installing a new seal in the opening, start at the middle of the rear edge. Carry out the installation, focusing on the upper working edge of the opening. Unwind the seal carefully, avoiding wrinkles and tension in the rounded areas. In case of improper installation, quickly peel off the seal and re-apply it.

Step 6

To make a joint, press the free end of the seal against the glued end and mark the joint in any convenient way. Then cut the free end of the cuff straight and press it down at the same height. Avoid adhesion of the sealant particles to the adhesive at the free end.

Step 7

It is better to press the sealant with a roller. With a 5 mm adhesive layer, press with a force of about 5 N, with a 10 mm adhesive width - with a force of 10 N. After that, once again check that there are no folds and tensions.

Step 8

After waiting at least 2 minutes after the first pressure, press the seal again with a force of 70 N. In this case, you can use the hatch itself, avoiding tearing off the rear and side edges. For reference: a strong thumb pressure generates a force of about 35 N / kV.cm

Step 9

Check that the cuff is positioned correctly and that there is no lag. Check the strength of the adhesive layer by pulling back the sealing lip. When pulling with a force of 10 N, the adhesive layer should not come off.
