Any large car manufacturer considers it its duty to present its "creation of the future" - a concept car at international motor shows. Such a car demonstrates the technical and design capabilities of the company, advertising its products and attracting potential customers.
Literally translated, this expression means "the car of the future." In fact, a concept is a car created by the manufacturer to demonstrate new technologies, design directions that the company has. Most often, a concept car is produced in a single copy. Manufacturing companies willingly demonstrate "cars of the future" at international salons and exhibitions. Based on the reaction of visitors, the largest firms try to determine the potential of their innovations, which can subsequently be launched into a series.
What's outside and inside
A concept car often has innovative solutions, not only in terms of design; the body, suspension, and engine undergo serious processing. As a material for the body, designers use such exotic materials as carbon fiber, ultralight alloys and even paper. The "heart" of the car, its engine, is also paid attention to. For example, engineers create models with a minimum fuel consumption of 0.5 liters per hundred kilometers. On the concept car, the doors can open upward or even forward! And the number of wheels may differ from the traditional number: there may be 3 or 6 of them.
The vast majority of these cars, which sometimes can rightfully be called a work of art, are not profitable. Therefore, some concepts remain in the form of mock-ups, or even just computer sketches. But there are those that are assembled according to the "full program" and are in working order. Most of the concept cars are intermediate and are not complete designs. You can sit in such cars at exhibitions, touch the controls; but they will be able to move at a speed of no more than 20 km / h. Some manufacturers exhibit at car dealerships even static models made of metal, plastic, fiberglass and even wax and clay.
Where Concept Cars Go
Cars of this type never enter (after exhibitions) on the production line, even if the auto show has passed with the maximum success. The designers will refine their creation, make changes to it, making sure that the model becomes practical, safe and does not bite too much at cost. When a concept car loses its relevance, it is usually dismantled and destroyed. Sometimes the most interesting models are sent to the warehouse or exhibited in the manufacturer's museum.
