Not a single engine is insured against overheating, and a column of steam from under the hood of a car can be a sign of serious expenses for repairs. How can you avoid them?
Necessary
- -cooling liquid or pure water;
- - towing vehicle or tow truck.
Instructions
Step 1
So, if you notice steam from under the hood, now you cannot load the engine, but also stop abruptly. Turn on the heater at full power and roll without acceleration until the car comes to a complete stop. This is necessary so that the power unit is blown a little by the wind and it cools down.
Step 2
Have you stopped? Turn off the engine, but do not turn off the ignition yet, but let the stove run for a few more minutes. After that, the ignition can already be turned off. Open the hood for good airflow to your engine.
Step 3
Even without inspection, we can say that the coolant in the expansion tank is boiling. Therefore, do not open it yet to avoid burns, but let the engine cool down. In winter it will take 15-20 minutes, and in summer - 20-25.
Step 4
Now it is better to deliver the car to a car service or your garage, and it is better for someone to take you in tow or evacuate. If this is not possible, then open the cover of the expansion tank and add coolant to it. If you do not have one, then ordinary clean water will do.
Step 5
Next, we start the car and turn on the interior heater again. Now you can drive until the coolant temperature is close to 90 degrees - track this moment on the gauge on the dashboard. If such a moment has come, then you need to stop, turn off the engine and wait about half an hour. So you can get to a car service, your garage, or at least someone who will take you in tow.
Step 6
On the service, describe your problem accurately to the servicemen. It can be assumed that there is something wrong with the thermostat, electric fan or pump. After fixing the problem, ask the masters to change the coolant for you, because due to boiling and / or the addition of water, its properties are lost.
