An automatic transmission (automatic transmission) is a type of vehicle transmission that allows without the participation of the driver, i.e. automatically, select the optimal gear ratio selection that matches the current driving conditions. The accelerator pedal sets the vehicle speed, not the engine speed. The automatic transmission differs from the manual transmission in the principle of operation and in the operating and maintenance conditions.
Instructions
Step 1
Start the engine and wait a few seconds for the automatic transmission to work. In winter, after the engine has started, wait for warm air to come out of the heating system. Due to the direct connection between the automatic transmission cooling system and the engine, such a warm-up will be useful for the gearbox. Therefore, it is not recommended to start driving until the automatic transmission is fully warmed up, otherwise the entire mechanism may be destroyed. This is due to the high degree of viscosity of the transmission fluid, and the heat helps it to be evenly distributed throughout all components.
Step 2
To drive, apply the brake and move the selector in all directions to disperse the oil. Then release the brake pedal and press the accelerator pedal. A characteristic jolt should be heard, which indicates that the movement can begin. It is not recommended to set the selector lever to the "N" position during long descents, when idle in traffic jams or at traffic lights.
Step 3
Avoid spinning the drive wheels for a long time, for example if you are stuck in snow or mud. In such a situation, engage a downshift and use the brake pedal as a clutch. When "rocking" the car, stop the movement at the hovering point using the brake, one shift of the selector forward and backward is not enough.
Step 4
Avoid towing over long distances, it is recommended to tow a car with automatic transmission no further than 30 kilometers, while the speed should not exceed 50 km / h. To travel in this way for longer distances, it is necessary to add an additional 2-3 liters of oil to the transmission.
Step 5
Service the automatic transmission regularly. Check the oil level and change it every 30 thousand kilometers. Due to the design features of the automatic transmission, it is impossible to drain all the oil in one go, so it is better to contact the specialists who will make a competent replacement of the transmission oil.
