The main measure that can significantly increase the life of a car battery is constant monitoring of the density and level of the electrolyte. The density of the electrolyte must correspond to the air temperature and climatic conditions of the region. In the warm season, for example, the norm will be 1, 2 g / cu. cm, at temperatures up to -15 degrees Celsius - 1, 24 g / cu. cm, and in frosts down to -30 degrees, the density of the electrolyte should be 1.28 g / cu. cm.
Step 2
Check the electrolyte level in each jar regularly and top up as necessary, paying attention to the density. It is very important to take into account that the electrolyte level rises during the charging process of the car battery. Thus, if you overdo it and pour too much, the acid will drain from the battery. This can lead to damage to both the device itself and some other parts of the car.
Step 3
Check the average charge level - it should be around 75%. Under no circumstances should the battery be deeply discharged! If you don't drive a car, just recharge the battery regularly. This will significantly increase its service life.
Step 4
Try to adjust the engine of your car so that it starts very easily. The more the starter motor works during daily engine starts, the shorter the battery life.
Step 5
Check the voltage at the terminals regularly. Normal voltage can vary on average from 13.8 to 14.4 V. If, as a result of measurements, you find significant deviations from the norm, you should adjust the battery.
Step 6
It is also recommended to recharge the battery with a current of 1-2 A using a charger at least once a month. This is not a requirement, but meeting it can significantly increase the life of the device.
