A dirty throttle valve can adversely affect the performance of your vehicle's engine, causing it to malfunction both at idle and under load. We recommend cleaning the throttle valve several times a year.
Necessary
- - pliers
- - crosshead screwdriver
- - aerosol carburetor cleaner
- - clean rags
- - cotton buds
- - assistant
Instructions
Step 1
Raise the hood and disconnect the battery. In order to disconnect the battery, you just need to disconnect the terminal from the contact with the "-" sign.
Step 2
Disconnect the box and the air filter branch pipe. Most often, the box itself is fastened with several bolts, and the pipe connecting the air filter itself to the intake manifold is fixed with a clamp. Dismantle the fasteners, loosen the clamp with a Phillips screwdriver and pliers and remove the air filter box with the pipe, freeing access to the throttle valve.
Step 3
Clean the outside of the throttle body. While the shutter is closed, apply a little cleaning agent to the shutter and wipe the surfaces with a rag. Change the cloth frequently to keep track of the progress of cleaning. For hard-to-reach areas, you can use regular cosmetic cotton swabs dipped in cleaner.
Step 4
Clean the inside of the throttle body. Ask your partner to drive your car and use the gas pedal to open the throttle fully. Clean the entire surface with cleaner and also wipe with a clean cloth. Pay particular attention to the working areas at the edges of the damper, where it contacts the manifold body. Remember to clean the entire interior of the part.
Step 5
Assemble and replace the air filter box and pipe. Then reconnect the battery terminal.
