In winter, motorists begin to experience discomfort from the cold temperature in the cabin. In addition to people, the engine of the car is also subjected to a heavy load, which during this period often begins to work intermittently and increases fuel consumption. This is due to insufficient coolant temperature.
Necessary
- - brass pipe from VAZ 2108 or brass pipe;
- - drill 10 mm;
- - drill;
- - solder and flux;
- - gas-burner.
Instructions
Step 1
Take a conventional thermostat that is used in the car's lower heating system. A traditional thermostat has three outlets on the branch pipes for two circles of circulation - small, when starting and warming up the engine, and large, used while driving.
Step 2
Make an additional pipe 15 mm long and 10 mm in diameter from a thin (1 mm thick) brass tube, or take a pipe from the VAZ 2108 thermostat. It is necessary to drain the coolant from the interior heater ("stove") not directly into the engine, but into the thermostat, thanks to which it will not cool down so quickly.
Step 3
Carefully drill a 10 mm hole closer to the junction of the two housing elements opposite the nozzle at the top of the thermostat with a 10 mm drill. Prepare a gas torch, solder and flux. If you do not have the skills to solder brass products, then it is better to seek help from specialists - you will save time and money.
Step 4
Clean and etch the location where the optional nipple will be installed. Solder it. Flare the end part slightly to better adhere to the coolant hose. If a branch pipe from a VAZ 2108 is used, then this is not necessary.
Step 5
Plug the hole on the "pump" (water pump) housing where the interior heater hose is normally connected so that cold coolant from its radiator does not immediately enter the engine. You will get a different circle of its circulation, which will make it possible for the temperature not to have a large difference at the inlet and outlet.
Step 6
Connect the retrofit thermostat to the cooling system in the usual way, using a sealant to prevent liquid seepage. Fill with coolant and check all connections for leaks.
Step 7
Start and warm up the engine. Check the temperature of the coolant with a thermometer, it should be 78-80 degrees.
