Modern auto shop counters are literally packed with coolants - choosing the most suitable product is not easy. But the engine resource depends on the quality of antifreeze, antifreeze.
The question indicated in the title sounds somewhat strange, almost contradictory. And that's why. From English "antifreeze" is translated as "anti freezing". That is, any liquid that does not lend itself to low temperatures can be called antifreeze. At the same time, "Tosol" is a specific brand of anti-freezing liquid. Compare "Antifreeze", antifreeze - the same if you compare, for example, "Toyota" and a car. However, if everything is clear with antifreeze, then the situation with Tosol is more complicated.
About "Tosol"
It is worth immediately deciphering this word, which has its roots in Soviet history; TOSol - "technology of organic synthesis". Once "Tosol" was the pride of Soviet production; the coolant was developed in the 60s at the institute under the tricky name GosNIIOKhT. At that time, the formulation was based on nitrite-borate components, and the production technology was quite complex. The quality of the Soviet product can be judged by the fact: its service life was 60,000 km or a couple of years of operation. Citizens of the USSR simply did not know other types of coolants and therefore any of them was called "Tosol". However, in the 90s, everything changed: the Tosol trademark was not registered at one time, therefore almost any manufacturer can still add this word to its products.
How to choose a coolant
First of all, you need to study the manual for your car; the manufacturer will definitely indicate which type of coolant is best suited for the car (up to the brand name). The product prescribed in the instructions must pass laboratory, factory tests and is produced according to one of three technologies: traditional (with inorganic salts), carboxylate (with organic salts) and hybrid.
At the present time, the situation has improved somewhat: new types of coolants have appeared, for example, Sever, Forsage. Visually, the real "Tosol" cannot be distinguished from the fake one, but you can at least ask about the label: this product is manufactured according to TU 6-56-95-96 (one of the latest versions). The list of "suitable" "Tosols" can always be found in the instructions for Russian-made cars: VAZ, KAMAZ, GAZ. Therefore, to keep the engine running as long as possible and to avoid premature repairs, use the coolant specified by the manufacturer.
