If you have never tried to remove a torpedo on your own, and there is no time or opportunity to contact specialists, try using the detailed instructions. With its help, you can remove the torpedo carefully, without causing any damage to the car. Remember that dismantling a torpedo is not the easiest and rather time-consuming process, but many motorists strongly recommend doing this work on their own, arguing that the car owner can do it much better than a stranger.
- Your first step should be to disconnect the battery wires. In addition, it is necessary to remove the ashtrays in advance, which are located in the center console (usually in the rear of it).
- The window lifters and the emergency gang switch must be removed using a thin long screwdriver, and in order not to confuse the location of the connectors, try to mark each of them or sketch their original location in a notebook.
- The frame for attaching the gear lever must also be disconnected, the internal screws must be unscrewed. After that, remove the front part of the console. Do not forget to also remove the storage compartment from the front console.
- Remove the radio tape recorder, the ventilation nozzle grill (they are very easy to pull out - just wiggle them a little and pull them towards you). The glove box must be opened and the latches located inside (if any) are unscrewed, then you can remove the glove box and proceed to disconnect the lighting lamp wire. If the car is equipped with an on-board computer, it must also be removed.
- Now it is necessary to unscrew the screws securing the heater panel trim, remove the switches, remove all the lower trims of the dashboard (both on the driver's side and on the passenger's side). You will also have to remove the side lining of the panel (usually it is fastened with screws located at the bottom).
- Now, without forgetting to remove the ignition switch, dismantle the steering wheel and steering column covers. We immediately remove the instrument cluster assembly (after having unscrewed the fixing screws), usually the devices are removed easily and without any problems.
- The windshield nozzles are removed with a screwdriver (you just need to lightly pry them off), after which you can start unscrewing the screw fasteners (they are located on both sides of the torpedo, as well as in the sockets of the windshield blowing nozzles). Sometimes you may need a special mini-screwdriver for this, since it is quite difficult to remove the mounts at an angle - the windshield interferes.
- Now you can remove the dimmer by disconnecting all the corresponding connectors, and making sure that none of the connectors remain attached, proceed to dismantle the panel. Pull it carefully towards you, and it will come off along with the air ducts. Remove the torpedo - but do so as carefully as possible so as not to break the restraints on it, as they can snag on the right or left pillar.
