A broken timing belt can lead to costly engine repairs, especially in an Audi vehicle. It is very important to set all the marks correctly when replacing the belt, otherwise the car simply will not start.
Necessary
Socket wrench set
Instructions
Step 1
After you remove the old timing belt, replace with a new tensioner pulley and secure it with a nut. Place a small washer under the nut first.
Step 2
When mounting the bracket, make sure that the protruding tubular pin on the roller gets into its slot. Fasten the bracket with a bolt, but not completely, and then put on a new timing belt with the teeth inward. Be careful not to move the shafts during this process.
Step 3
Turn the tensioner pulley counterclockwise to tighten the timing belt slightly.
Step 4
Rotate the crankshaft and look at the flywheel marks. There should be a coincidence of the O | T marks on the intermediate shaft, on the camshaft and on the plastic cover. If the marks do not match, then it is necessary to repeat all the steps, starting with removing the belt and putting it on again.
Step 5
If the marks coincide, then pull the tensioner rod up with one hand and turn the tension roller with the other hand. It must be turned counterclockwise. Secure the structure with the large bolt that you screwed in a little earlier.
Step 6
Then turn the crankshaft again and see if the O | T marks on the intermediate shaft, on the camshaft and on the plastic cover match. If the marks coincide, put on the lower timing belt cover by screwing two bolts from the bottom, one to the left, one bolt, which is located in the center in the recess and a shaped nut.
Step 7
Slide on the pulleys by screwing in the 4 bolts that secure it in depth. Then look at the camshaft gear, the O | T mark should line up with the same mark on the plastic boot that covers the upper rear of the camshaft gear. Turn the crankshaft clockwise until the mark “0” is aligned with the edges of the window in the clutch housing and the smooth arrow located on the lower timing belt cover above the crankshaft. If all marks match, be sure that the timing belt is installed and adjusted correctly.
