All car owners know what fuses are, but not everyone knows exactly where they are in the car and how to change them. It often happens that replacing a fuse is an insoluble task, and the car is driven in a tow truck in order to replace a blown fuse.
Necessary
- - a set of whole fuses,
- - torch,
- - puller (tongs),
- - magnifying glass.
Instructions
Step 1
You can find out the location of the fuse box in a particular car from the owner's manual. The blocks can be located simultaneously in several places: under the hood, in the cabin, in the trunk. The engine compartment fuse box is shaped like a black box and can be easily found in the engine compartment. The fuse box in the passenger compartment is not easy to find: it can be behind the glove box, at the driver's feet, in the pillar, in the sidewall of the center console. It often happens that under one fuse box there is a second one. In the latest models of the automotive industry, the fuse box can also be installed in the trunk.
Step 2
Fuses fail (burn out) due to overloads in the electrical circuit. These overloads are due to a short circuit. The fuse, when burned, opens the electrical circuit, protecting the devices and systems of the car from damage.
Step 3
You can change the fuse correctly by following simple rules. First, you need to find the right fuse. However, remember that there may be several fuses for each system. Secondly, in modern cars with small fuses, they should be removed from their seats with a special puller (pliers). Thirdly, you should make sure that the fuse is blown. A thin wire is visible through the transparent body of the fuse, which melts when the fuse blows. Fourthly, instead of a blown fuse, install an operable one of the same rating. The rating is indicated by a number on the fuse body. In this case, you cannot put a fuse with a higher rating instead of a burned out one with a lower rating.
Step 4
Place the fuse in the same place it was removed from. Often, due to low lighting or vision problems, car owners install a fuse in a different slot. Result: malfunctions in the modules and systems of the car, leading to serious damage.
Step 5
If all instructions for replacing the fuse have been followed, and the malfunction in the car has not been eliminated, therefore, in addition to the fuse, there are still reasons for the failure. In this case, the newly installed fuse may also blow. You should start searching for the causes of problems in the electrical system immediately or contact a technical center.
