There is no need to explain to anyone that the most vulnerable place on a car is the bumper. It is scratched most often, and bursts, and breaks in serious collisions. Considering that the bodies of modern cars are made of plastic, it is quite possible to restore the bumper at home.
Necessary
- - electric soldering iron;
- - screwdriver;
- - fragments of the bumper and a supply of plastic;
- - solvent.
Instructions
Step 1
It is important not to lose and keep everything, even the smallest pieces of the bumper. Do not be lazy and after an accident or a small collision with an obstacle, carefully collect everything. Place the shards in a hard container so they don't break down even further before repairing.
Step 2
Most types of plastics, from which the body and car parts are made, are easily repaired by welding using an ordinary electric soldering iron. This is precisely welding, since the joined edges of the body parts are melted and welded. If the repair is not very large and consists in patching up cracks, you may not need to remove the bumper from the car.
Step 3
Thoroughly wash the repair site and degrease. Preheat your soldering iron. Use a screwdriver of the right size to bend open edges if access is difficult from the inside. When welding, immerse the soldering iron tip all the way into the joint perpendicular to the surface. Formed two plastic rollers on both sides, bring together in a seam. Use the tip of the soldering iron as a spatula.
Step 4
Have a supply of plastic on hand to fill the joints in case of a shortage at the repair site. It is desirable that the material is of the same type. In the absence of the same plastic, choose a suitable piece empirically. You can go through the seam several times. It is important that the new layer welds securely to the previous one. To make the seam more reliable, weld the joint on both sides.
Step 5
At the end of the welding work, clean the seams. This can be done with the help of a "grinder", files with a large notch, sandpaper. Use a sharp knife, something can be leveled with a plane. After that, take care of the texture of the treated surface. Take any solvent that softens the plastic, and wipe the weld with a cloth dampened in the solvent. You can try trimming the seam off with a stiff brush.
Step 6
The assembly of bumper fragments has no technological features. At the same time, install large pieces first - then it will be easier to deal with the rest. Small parts can also be pre-assembled into large pieces and then welded into place. Weld the cracks first, then move on to the holes.
