The standard rear shelves on VAZ cars are made of thin plastic. Therefore, it is problematic to install dynamics in them. And the sound quality will be low. Reinforcing plastic shelves is very difficult. All problems can be solved by a wooden shelf, offered in assortment in car dealerships. However, you can save money and make such a shelf yourself. The greatest difficulty is the manufacture of a wooden shelf in the VAZ-21099.

Necessary

  • Plywood sheet or wooden board 1.5x0.8 m with a thickness of at least 10 mm. Long (1.5 m) board or strip of plywood with a slightly thinner thickness.
  • Universal adhesive.
  • Karpet 0.5 m.
  • Fastening screws.
  • Dye.
  • Perforated steel tape.
  • Drill, electric jigsaw, sander, screwdriver.

Instructions

Step 1

Fold down the rear seat to provide access to the rear shelf. Remove the sides of the rear parcel shelf. Remove the seat belt guide located on the sidewalls. Unscrew the upper (on the rack) and lower (on the threshold) seat belt guides and remove the belt by passing it through the hole on the side of the shelf. Lock the belts in a fully unrolled position.

Step 2

According to the drawing, cut out the blank for the shelf, the upper part, the decorative strip, side supports and grilles. Make the side supports inlaid. Make markings for attaching the main and decorative shelf. Make the sides of the decorative panel flush with the slots for the seat belts. Make the distance to the straight side of the main panel equal to 30 mm.

Step 3

Attach the shelf to the wood shelf blank to determine the angle between the shelf and the plank. On the VAZ-21099 shelf, it is approximately 50 degrees. Cut the corner with a jigsaw, sand the cut lines with sandpaper. Gather all the parts of the shelf and glue them together. Then use a drill to drill the holes where the screws are to be installed. Pre-drilling the holes will help prevent chipping and make it easier to screw in the screws themselves. Also glue and fasten the side walls with screws.

Step 4

Attach beveled surfaces and thin strips especially carefully. Secure the thin strip with a stapler. After the glue dries, cut off all protruding parts. Sand the unevenness. Lastly, attach the rear bar adjacent to the seats. Use a stapler to attach the coarse mesh to the speaker holes. To protect the wood from moisture, paint the shelf.

Step 5

To glue the carpet, first cut out the required piece of material. Spray adhesive from a spray can onto the glued surfaces of the carpet and wooden shelf. Place the carpet on the shelf and use a suitable hard object to press through the material in all grooves and curves. The properties of the carpet allow it to take any shape and stretch easily. Glue the edges of the panel carefully. Wrap the edges of the carpet inward and fasten with paper clips. At the corners, fold the material neatly, secure and cut off the excess.

Step 6

On the side struts, fasten two pieces of steel perforated tape at the places where the shelf is attached to the car body. Install the made shelf in the machine. Pass the seat belts through the holes and finally secure the rear parcel shelf.
