Replacing spark plugs on Volkswagen Passat vehicles is required for routine maintenance and spark plug failure. When replacing parts, use only Volkswagen recommended spark plugs for the specific engine. Pay attention to the number of electrodes, the heat rating and the ability to not cause radio interference.

Instructions
Step 1
Always use a dedicated spark plug wrench to remove and install spark plugs. Wait until the candles have cooled down before starting work and clean the area around them with a brush.
Step 2
To replace the spark plugs on all engines, unscrew the screws or loosen the brackets and remove the upper casing of the power unit. Mark high-voltage wires with a marker or colored tape and remove the tips of these wires from the spark plugs. Clean new candles with a brush or compressed air. Unscrew old candles using a candle wrench
Step 3
Having removed the old candles, pay attention to the color of the working part of the insulator. If the nose of the insulator is clean and white without any deposits, then the fuel mixture is lean. Adjust the mixture or replace the plug.
Step 4
If you see black deposits on the spark plug insulator, be aware that the fuel mixture is overly enriched. The oiliness of the plaque characterizes the deterioration of the engine and the need for its overhaul. The ideal condition of the fuel mixture and the good condition of the engine are characterized by a light brown coating.
Step 5
Check the spark plug gap. Its non-compliance with technical requirements leads to a decrease in the efficiency of the engine. Use wire templates or test leads for this check. If necessary, correct the gap by bending the side electrode. Never bend the center electrode to avoid breaking the insulator.
Step 6
Always use a specialized tool when bending the side electrodes. Make sure the threads on these parts are clean and not damaged before installing new spark plugs. After installing new spark plugs, tighten them with a spark plug wrench to the correct tightening torque. Be careful not to distort the installation. For ease of operation, put a piece of rubber hose over the spark plug and install it in the spark plug channel. Connect high voltage wires to them.
