With the arrival of winter, car owners are faced with the problem of replacing tires with winter models, since only special studded tires can provide reliable traction on an icy road. You can install winter wheels yourself if you have the necessary skills and tools.
It is necessary
- - winter tires;
- - jack;
- - "balloon" key;
- - wheel chocks;
- - gloves.
Instructions
Step 1
Find tires for your vehicle. First of all, pay attention to the wheel radius, width and height of the rubber. When installing tires of atypical size, the result can be unpredictable: the rubber can cling to the wheel arch liners, the turning radius will change, the speedometer readings will be distorted.
Step 2
Find a suitable place to change tires, set the parking brake and place special wedges or blocks under the wheels. It is important that the vehicle is well secured and does not roll away. It is imperative to place stops under the wheel located diagonally from the wheel to be replaced.
Step 3
Place a jack under one of the sides of the car (there is a special jack or stop for this) and raise this edge. As a result, the wheel should be slightly off the ground and rotate freely.
Step 4
Unscrew the fastening nuts with a wrench and remove the wheel. Remove the tire from it and mark which wheel it was on (for example, front right). This is necessary so that in the spring you can easily restore the previous order and not make a mistake when changing the rubber.
Step 5
It is very convenient if your winter tires are assembled on an additional set of disks. In this case, the installation of winter wheels is much easier - you just need to replace the entire wheels.
Step 6
If you do not have the opportunity to keep an additional set of wheels, install winter tires on the removed wheels, if they are not new, follow last year's procedure. Place the wheel on the hub, tighten all the nuts in a crisscross pattern, tightening to a barely noticeable effort. Then tighten the nuts firmly with a cylinder wrench, also in a crisscross pattern (this order is necessary for better wheel alignment).
Step 7
Change the tires on the remaining wheels in the same way. After all the wheels are "shod" in winter tires, go to a car service and balance the wheels.
