A small trailer can be a great help for a motorist. It is convenient to carry loads on it that do not fit in the cabin or trunk in size. A large number of trailers of a wide variety of models are presented on the market today. But in some cases it is more convenient not to purchase a ready-made structure, but to make it in accordance with your requirements for capacity and ease of use.

It is necessary

  • - steel channel;
  • - Sheet steel;
  • - plywood;
  • - aluminum tubes;
  • - undercarriage;
  • - wheels;
  • - electrical equipment;
  • - material for the awning;
  • - tools for working with metal;
  • - fasteners;
  • - welding machine.

Instructions

Step 1

Make a list of the main components and parts of the trailer. It should include a frame with a drawbar, a body, a suspension, a braking device, a hitch, arches, an awning, a warning light system and electrical equipment.

Step 2

Draw a diagram of the hitch. Show on the drawing the linear dimensions and the relative position of the main parts of the trailer. It is convenient to make a drawing in three projections. Use the compiled image when assembling the structure.

Step 3

Make the frame of the trailer rectangular. For its manufacture, use a steel channel with a section of 25x50 mm. Attach the towing hitch to the front ends of the side members. Position the shock absorber brackets on the middle cross member. You will also need brackets to attach the bumper to the rear cross member.

Step 4

Weld the trailer body from sheet steel with a thickness of at least 0.6 mm. Reinforce the ribs and the upper part of the body with steel corners. From thick plywood, make the underbody to the size of the frame, reinforcing it with metal strips. In the upper part of the sides, provide slots for installing arcs and hooks through which the awning will be attached.

Step 5

For the manufacture of the chassis, use the suspension (front axle) taken from an old motorcycle. Also take the wheels for the trailer from the SZD-type stroller. Complete the torsion bar suspension with spring-hydraulic shock absorbers from the Ural motorcycle.

Step 6

Take the standard hitch, which is installed on tractors. Attach the hitch body to the drawbar in a flexible manner, not rigidly. This will allow the inertial force generated during braking to be transmitted to the hydraulic brakes.

Step 7

Equip the trailer with a passive braking system. It significantly increases safety when towing on mountain roads and long descents. Adjust the brakes so that the wheels will not block in the event of emergency braking.

Step 8

Complete the installation of the trailer with the electrical installation. Perform the wiring in a one-line diagram. Connect all necessary lighting devices (direction indicators, brake lights, side lights) to the vehicle's on-board network. Equip the sides of the trailer with reflectors.
