Experts who conducted this study at the University of Alabama analyzed the number of unintentional injuries due to inattentive driving. As it turned out later, almost half of the drivers who took part in the experiment became participants in an accident because of this.

During the experiment, the researchers paid close attention to two age groups, adolescents 16-25 years old and elderly people 55 to 85 years old. This category of drivers is more likely than others to be responsible for road accidents.

Most often, inattentiveness at the wheel was characteristic of those drivers who were confident in their experience, as well as too conscientious. Participants of the so-called "risk group" quite often concentrated exclusively on any one subject (looked exclusively directly, etc.) and, moreover, were prone to excessive impulsivity, anxiety and agitation.

Despite this, in the participants of different groups, experts discovered characteristic character traits, they could potentially become one of the causes of road accidents. So, for example, young drivers were much more likely than others to be distracted by telephone conversations and writing, reading SMS messages.
